See Eunny Knit!

I got my IK the other day in the mail and it was just jammed packed with great stuff. The patterns were ones that I would see myself making. The pictures were great and so were the articles....Until I saw the tutorial on steeking by Eunny.

I've done my fair share of steeking and find it fun and exhilarating! Just the idea of cutting open what you just spent countless hours knitting is a rush indeed. As I'm reading the article, it was just a refresher course until I got to the next page and she mentions sleeves and steeking!

Who would have thunk? Honestly? It sure as hell wasn't me but hot damn! I just have all of these new ideas in my head for this. And why not? It would make the sleeves go sooooo much faster AND you can knit a set in sleeve in the round and still have a great looking sweater. This clearly warrents investigation. I'm excited about it and really look forward to pursuing it!

As you may see, I have a Christmas Knitting Deadline ticker at the top of the page. Well that is when MY Christmas knitting needs to be completed so I can get it all in the mail. SO far I have my sister, neice, and mother-in-law completed.

Now for the dilema. I'm seriously considering selling a pattern. Its the hat that I designed for my sister for Christmas. I have the pattern written and all charted out. The quarks are all squared away. I just have to take a picture. Now for the tough part and I need your help with. Should I submit it to the pattern companies OR just offer it as a free pattern here on the site? The choice is yours as I'm incapable of making this decision on my own!

what a dilemna Lib! I loved seeing smarieknits' free patterns in the daily knitter but if ya wanna start being a real live PAID designer, well, you've gotta start by getting paid for your designs right? Send it to IK, and Knitters and all the other mags. Speaking of...does MagKnits pay for their patterns or just get them for free? you're an awesome knitster so just go for whatever decision works best for you (and your fam of course!)

Libby, my first thought was Knitty. They pay for the pattern but you get the rights back for when you publish your book!!!

Hey Libs, I totally get this dilemma (not a bad one to have, btw). If you have plans to continue with this kind of thing, it might be a good idea to go for exposure over money the first time around (get onto a much visited site like MagKnits or Knitty or what have you). Get your name/blog out there. And eventually you can have a paypal download system or whatever on your blog. I could see this working out for you. Cool!!

I've just had to make this decision myself. An online mag wants to publish a photograph I took. Maybe that will lead to some little old thing down the road. I'm going for exposure this time around.

I got bummed with Eunny's sweater-it's very pretty, but it's also REALLY fine gauge!

I think you need to go look at on-line submission guidelines for several magazines. THEN decide.

Libby I would look into Knitty or Magknits. I know Knitty pays, probably not that much. But of course you get exposure. I am not sure if Magknits pays, but you would be in some snazzy company ie: Grumperina and co.
Good luck whatever you decide. The hat you designed for the Elann contest is beautiful, so you know you can do it successfully
